Australia’s opera stars will perform a benefit concert to foster the future of Royal Opera House Young Artist Samuel Sakker. In September this year, 28-year-old Melbourne-based tenor Samuel Sakker will join a handful of singers accepted into the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Out of more than 390 applicants from 58 countries, five talented young singers, three of whom are Australian, will reap the benefits of this extraordinary opportunity. Operation: Covent Garden is a benefit concert to help Samuel raise much-needed funds to relocate to London. Samuel’s friends, who happen to be some of Australia’s brightest opera stars – soprano Emma Matthews, mezzo-soprano Deborah Humble and baritone José Carbó – have generously offered to share the stage with him. Together with accompanist Raymond Lawrence, they will perform a selection of their favourite songs, arias and duets, including works by Verdi, Brahms and Puccini..
