Flemington Racecourse is a beautiful racetrack and is most notable for hosting the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
Flemington is also renowned for its stunning roses and its sweeping views of the city skyline. Shaped somewhat like a pear, the track has circumference of 2312 metres, with the final straight covering a distance of 450 metres.
Added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2006, Flemington Racecourse is steeped in history. The bronze statue of Phar Lap, one of Australia’s most famous racehorses, is part of the grounds. The seven panel mural that is attached to The Hill Stand, traces the history of racing.
